Travel Guide to Brazil for Gringos
Travel Guide to Brazil for Gringos
When the Spanish Inquisition set their sights on the famously dubious morality of Brazil they found themselves in for a shock. When the priests arrived in Brazil they found more sin and carnal transgression than they knew what to do with. Brazil was still a young country and it was far enough away from Europe to be a New World in its own right. The result was that everyone was having sex with everyone - plantation owners, African slaves, Portugese officials, indigenous Brazilians - and the result is that Brazilians today have every shade of skin colour imaginable and sensuality is an integral part of Brazilian culture.
Brazil has, however, fallen victim to the hype of the travel industry so badly that it's hard for the traveler to see anything beyond the football, the sex and the erotic images of Carnival that make travel in Brazil seem like an endless party.
The reality of travelling in Brazil is far more complex than that and Brazilians are more than thie football team, a few sexy samba dancers and the bandits of City of God. Gringo Guides aims to show you another side to Brazil, a few images and reflections for the traveler to sink a little deeper into the reality of modern day Brazil.
